The concert Hoorqoliya (The Eighth Realm), led by Shahab Ghasemi and featuring the distinctive sounds of Khorasan’s Dotar, will take place on Thursday, January 30, 2025, at 9:00 PM in the Main Hall of Azadi Tower, Tehran.
Presented by the “Sarv-e Khorasan” ensemble under the direction of Aziz Tanha, the performance will feature 15 musicians and a vocalist, offering audiences an immersive and spiritual experience rooted in the musical traditions of Khorasan.
The concert is produced by Dang Dang Koban Institute, an organization with over a decade of dedicated work in the field of ethnic and regional music in Tehran Province.
The program includes selections of traditional and mystical Khorasani music, performed with the newly invented Hoorqoliya instrument alongside the classic Dotar. Shahab Ghasemi, the ensemble leader and creator of the Hoorqoliya, shared:“Much of the Khorasani music performed in Tehran tends to be shaped by urban arrangements. In this concert, we’ve stayed true to the original structure of Khorasan’s music, honoring its authenticity.”
He also noted that a whirling dervish performance will accompany some pieces to enhance the spiritual and poetic ambiance.
The featured vocalists are Amin Amini and Mostafa Vaghari, with Elham Pakravan serving as the group’s executive director.
Tickets are available for purchase on the Iran Concert website.
