رونمایی از شهاب‌سنگ سیارکی ایران و خاورمیانه در موزه شهاب سنگ برج آزادی
روز دوشنبه 7 مهرماه، در موزه شهاب‌سنگ برج آزادی، از شهاب‌سنگ سیارکی ایران و خاورمیانه با وزن 21 کیلو و 420 گرم رونمایی شد.
این شهاب‌سنگ منحصر به‌فرد که از گروه آکندریت HED نوع اوکریت است، جزو نادرترین نمونه‌های این دسته به شمار می‌رود و منشا آن سیارک وستا 4 است. وستا، دومین سیارک بزرگ پس از سرس در کمربند سیارکی منظومه شمسی، با قطر حدود 525 کیلومتر (326 مایل)، چهارمین سیارک کشف‌شده محسوب می‌شود.
دکتر محمودی، عضو هیئت علمی دانشگاه خوارزمی، در این مراسم با اشاره به ارزش علمی، معنوی بالای شهاب‌سنگ‌های منشا گرفته از وستا، این نمونه را یکی از کمیاب‌ترین شهاب‌سنگ‌های سیارکی دانست.
